A Correlational and Comparative Study: Career Indecision and Associated Distress among Psychology Students of Universities of Peshawar and Swat

The study aimed to compare the differences in the level of career distress and situational constraints between final-year psychology students in Peshawar and Swat. Additionally, the study explored whether there was a correlation between lack of readiness and career distress. Data was collected by administering a refined 22-item version of Coping with Career Indecision (CCI) scale to a sample of 87 participants (University of Peshawar students n = 44 and University of Swat students n = 43). The ages of the participants ranged from 21 to 25 years (M = 22.53, SD = 1.12) and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) ranged from 2 to 4 (M = 3.15, SD = 0.46). An independent samples t-test was conducted to study the differences in the level of career distress and situational constraints between University of Peshawar and University of Swat students. Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between lack of readiness and career distress. Results indicated a lack of significant difference (p > .05) in the level of career distress and situational constraints experienced by University of Peshawar and University of Swat students. Lack of readiness showed a significant positive correlation with career distress (r = .58**), suggesting that a higher level of lack of readiness is associated with a higher level of career distress. Lack of readiness was found to be a significant (p < .05) predictor of career distress.
